SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL - Press Accreditation (2019, 2020, 2021)

A Brighter Lens received press accreditation to cover the festival in-person in 2019 and 2020, and virtually in 2021. Additionally, we were accepted as part of the 2021 Sundance Film Festival Press Inclusion Initiative. NEW PODCAST “A FEMALE LENS” CARVES OUT SPACE FOR FEMALE FILMMAKERS

A Female Lens, a new podcast spotlighting women in film, has officially launched under the creative direction of LA-based filmmakers Jennifer Zahlit and Larkin Bell. The weekly show, is cohosted by Zahlit and Bell, and features interviews with women across various disciplines in film and a topical news segment. A Female Lens focuses on making the film industry more accessible to women and aims to grow a supportive community of female creatives poised for real-world collaboration.

In an industry dominated by men, women continue to face multiple barriers to entry. This podcast wants to change that.

Jennifer Zahlit is a theatre and film director who has just returned to LA after directing the sold-out NYC run of Michael Weller’s Moonchildren. She attended the Directors Lab West (2017) and co-founded the bicoastal play reading series and theatre company Plays for the People. Larkin Bell is an actress, artist, and filmmaker who recently starred in the feature film Hatchback and the short film Honor Council, produced by Josh Hutchinson and Indigenous Media. She has performed onstage in Los Angeles with The Theatre @ Boston Court and IAMA Theatre Company. Both women are alumnae of the USC School of Dramatic Arts and recently shot their first 20-minute short film together.

“While in production, Jennifer and I looked to filmmaking podcasts for guidance and insight,” Bell said. “But we found that the space was overwhelmingly occupied by men. We want to change that.”

The first episode includes a conversation with writer and director Elizabeth Chomko who premiered her film What They Had at the Sundance Film Festival in 2018.

Forthcoming episodes offer interviews with casting director Tiffany Little Canfield (Mary Poppins Returns, This is Us), film composer Jesi Nelson (Sundance 2018 Trailer Theme Music Composer, Sundance Music and Sound Design Lab Alum, 2017), actress Britt Rentschler (Instant Family, The Detour, Castle) and film reporter and author Alicia Malone (The Female Gaze, Backwards and In Heels).

The podcast will also be present at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival as part of the festival’s official press.

A Female Lens is now available for streaming on Apple Podcasts and all other streaming services. New episodes will be available every Monday.
